Cycle rides and cycling events that I know of, and that are within reach of Barking, are listed in the Hubbub Meetup group.
Other organisers of the Hubbub Meetup group add events they know of in NE London and I’m always interested to hear of events that are suitable for inclusion. If you are the organiser of suitable events, please let me know, and I will consider making you an organiser of the Meetup group so that you can add events directly, to save me adding them all myself!
One doesn’t need to be a member of the Hubbub Meetup group to see the events listed. Many of the events listed require registration with the organizers of the event, and I have indicated this where relevant. RSVPs to the Meetup group itself are not registration (unless stated otherwise) – though the organisers of the Meetup group can see who has RSVP-ed.
I have put links below to groups/organisations hosting rides/events, or lists of rides/events. Rides / events from these sources may not be on the Hubbub Meetup group – please check with the organiser to be certain. If you know of any groups or events lists that can be relevantly included here, please let me know.
It is also worth checking the Barking & Dagenham Cycling Campaign Facebook page for clues about rides/events. If you want to receive occasional e-mails about Stibasa things, including late notice of rides and events, please join our Google group.
Breeze Network: British Cycling arranged rides for women only. Also cycling advice – not sure if that is women specific.
A social cycling group based in Leytonstone. “We ride for enjoyment and fitness and our regular Saturday morning rides are around 45-55 miles long – further in the summer.
If you are interested in getting fitter our friendly and informal group rides are ideal. We ride out around the quiet country lanes of Essex and always include a welcome stop for coffee.
Saturday rides usually leave at 8:30am from the junction where Browning Rd meets Bushwood (E11 3AY)”
Cycle 4 All is an all ability cycling club. Fees are payable and it is suggested that you contact Cycle 4 all before any session to discuss your cycling needs and see if they can be met by the club.
Skyride Local. I usually include Skyrides within easy reach of Barking, on Hubbub (see above) but you may like to check directly on the Skyride side for anything I have not included (deliberately or by oversight) that interests you.
Creative Wellness runs a women only cycling group (and a women only walking group).
Greening the Fiddlers runs or intends to run walking and cycling groups (set up in late 2020) open to all (though as at 20/11/2020 weather or Covid restriction have prevented them actually meeting.
This local group of Cycling UK rides out from near Upminster Station on Sunday mornings, usually into the Essex countryside.
Although this group is not B&D based as such, one of its members lives in Barking and often seeks out people for rides. One worth watching, maybe.
Road cycling club aimed at those aged over forty. “A Sociable Cycle Club With Fourteen Active Sections In The Home Counties Around London.” The rides don’t start especially near B&D, but there is a Southend section so a train assisted ride may be feasible.
Defunct groups / broken links (left here for the record)
Barking and Dagenham Social Cycling Group. Rides to suit all levels and training to build skills and confidence. Contact Russell Coe / +44 7774 182308. As at 7 April 2017 this is still listed on Hubbub (see above) but I have heard nothing of it in a long time. Please let me know any news of it
